Staffing

SWTJC/SR-RGC Libraries have 2 full-time librarians and 1 part-time librarian, all with master's degrees from an American Library Association accredited library program. They have job related experience appropriate for their positions. The Librarians and their job duties are listed below.

Evaluation of Staff

ACRL standards are used as guidelines to develop criteria for staffing positions. Each staff member is evaluated yearly. The evaluation is performed by the Director of the Library, the Associate Vice-President of Del Rio, or the Associate Vice-President Eagle Pass.  Ensuring that the services performed are in line with the mission of the college and the library.

All library staff members attend professional development to stay current with trends in the field of library science and customer service. The librarians, two of whom hold appointed offices in Texas Library Association committees, are active members of several professional organizations. The full time librarians serve on numerous campus committees, which provides valuable insight into the needs of the institution.

Off-Site Committee Judgment and Commentary: Non-Compliance

The narrative states the two full time librarians and the one part time librarian all have the appropriate education (Master of Science, Master of Library Science, or Master of Library and Information Science). However, only one librarian is listed on the printed documentation of faculty and staff and that is the Dean. The other two librarians are not listed on the roster to show their credentials. Job descriptions for nonprofessional full-time and part-time staff are available and stipulate minimum requirements for their positions. All non-librarian members of the library staff are listed on the roster. The credentials for all except one, Padilla, are documented. Professional development opportunities are primarily available through professional memberships, conferences and webinars. The librarians are members of such organizations as the American Library Association (ALA), the Texas Library Association and the Texas Historical Association. Documentation is provided showing professional development activities for the full time librarians. The library staff participated in numerous webinars and online training opportunities.
